The Lost Medieval Village of Sudeley
A host of entries and information is on the internet about this lost village. Just type in The Lost Medieval Village of Sudeley and enjoy the story. A group of archaeologists is looking to crowdfund £25000 to support a dig later this year. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and appears to have had 40 dwellings. Derek Maddock, an archivist at Sudeley Castle, said: "It was quite a prosperous village in the 1400s. By about the 1440s it seems to be on the decline and by the1500s it's almost completely gone."He said the reason the village may "possibly" have disappeared was because of Sudeley Castle's first owner Ralph Boteler who may have found the dwellings unsightly. The dig is due to begin of the 22nd of October and the team is looking for contributions and volunteers. Visit the ‘digventures.com’ web site for more details.
